As I described in an early post I have a lot more interesting photographs I wish to share with you from last weeks tour around Northumberland. I ended up taking a lot of pictures in the town of Seahouses, especially around the harbour. This is where all the boats depart and arrive from the Farne Islands. There must be hundreds of people going everyday because there were dozens of boats coming in and out of the harbour full of people. Any school of photography will tell you that getting a little red into your pictures makes a massive difference, I often see portraits where the models are wearing red jumpers for example. With such a deep blue of the sea and cloudless blue sky I feel that the white of the tower to the left and white of the boat really contrast well against the colour of the water. I hope you agree.
Craster Harbor, Northumberland
Today I visited the sleepy fishing village of Craster and took the above photograph of it’s picturesque harbour. It reminded me a little of a smaller version of Dunbar harbour in Scotland, although there were few boats in when I took this picture due to it being low tied. Only a couple of miles up the coast from Craster is what I really came to photograph however, the very interesting Dunstanburgh Castle. It was a fantastic day weather wise and whilst walking along the coast I also got some nice photos of the rock pools and other points of interest on the beach. All of which will be shared at a later date but for now, I thought I would give you the first things first and show you where today’s journey set off from, Craster.
Yachts in Fleetwood Harbour
I didn’t know what to expect when I was told I was been taken to the town of Fleetwood. It is just north of Blackpool and much smaller. They have a nice shopping centre called Freeport, behind which is the large harbour in the photograph above. I couldn’t take the picture at first as the light was in the wrong place but we came back later in the afternoon to get this photograph, with the sun in the right place. The shopping centre is just off this image to the left.
Boats at Whiteheaven Harbour
Two reasons for sharing this photograph with you. Firstly, I took an interesting photograph of the modern sculpture at the harbour. It was the most interesting thing I had taken a picture of that day but didn’t really show you what the harbour looks like with all the boats. This is difficult to do as there are at least three different areas, above shows you just one but you do get a much better idea of the place in my opinion. Secondly, I am heading up to Teesdale in County Durham tomorrow for a weekend of photography and this picture was taken in the north of the country also. Yes, Whiteheaven is in Cumbria but Durham and Cumbria are similar to me all the way down here in Manchester. Anyway, the photograph isn’t technically that wonderful (like always I blame that on the weather) but I liked the masts of the boats, as they appear to merge together.
