White Swan

White Swan

Seen on Lake Zurich in Switzerland this beautiful example of a mute swam was in the perfect place to be lit up by the mid afternoon summer sun. As he was so white and therefore bright, even advanced digital cameras get a little confused and so the shutter speed was very quick on this picture. On the original raw file straight out of the camera the water was almost black, but with a little Photoshop work I was able to bring out the blue of the water and the reflection with it.

Grossmunster Zurich

Grossmunster Zurich

The Grossmunster and its twin towers are regarded as one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Zurich skyline. This Romanesque-style church dates back to around 1220 AD. Looking closely at the above image I can see that there are people near to the top of these towers. As one of the tallest structures in the centre of the city, I clearly missed the opportunity to get an aerial view of Zurich. Don’t worry, it has been added to the list for next time I’m in Switzerland!

Swimming in Lake Zurich

Swimming in Lake Zurich

If you look closely in the above photograph you can see a swan on the right and a local woman on the left swimming in Lake Zurich. In the background you can see the city centre skyline of Zurich. It must have been very cold in the lake, but this woman was not alone in her bravery. There were half a dozen people in the water on the day I captured this photograph. Obviously walking around on my own with my camera gave me the perfect excuse not to join them!

Zurich 1568 Painting

Zurich 1568 Painting

This Wall Mural was found on one of the buildings in the centre of Zurich. It shows some of the cities famous churches such as the Fraumunster and St Peter’s. The date at the bottom below the river is 1568 so I can only presume this is what the city looked like near 500 years ago. Unfortunately I don’t have a record of where I was stood when this was taken, so it is hard for me to research any further information.
