Taken back in March of this year, the photograph above shows the fishing pond at Abney Hall Park. It was a lovely day when we went, Claire and I had a great picnic. It is definitely somewhere I hope to go back to this summer. Apart from the few twigs in the bottom left hand corner of this picture I really like the image. I realise it doesn’t have a particular focal point but I wanted to share the image to show you want a nice place Abney Hall Park is. More of an afternoon walk / picnic place rather than a full day out, but I know that many people don’t know where the park is or have never been to it.
Abney Hall, Cheadle
Built in 1847, Abney Hall is in a relatively unknown area between Cheadle and Disbury Villages to the side of the M60 motorway. The site was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 2005 and does have a surprising amount of plant and wild life. We went this afternoon for a picnic and a walk around. The only thing that spoils it is the noise of the motorway but this can’t be helped. I
remember coming here a lot as a child and the more I explored the more memories of the place came back to me. I would certainly recommend it for a little walk around the Nature Reserve. The hall itself (pictured above) is now used for offices, similar to the situation at Bruntwood Park down the road (although Bruntwood is much much bigger than this one. I think this was definitely a case of choosing the right day to go as the weather was perfect.
River Mersey at Didsbury
After the cinema and a nice meal at Pizza Hut we managed to miss the bus by five minutes. So rather than waiting for half an hour for the next one we started to walk away from Parrswood (Didsbury) towards Cheadle. Before we got the bus I took a couple of photos from the bridge over the River Mersey. I often wait here as it is very close to the gym I go to.
Bramall Hall, Bramhall, Stockport
This afternoon I visited Bramall Hall, in Bramhall, Stockport. It is a wonderful example of a ‘Cheshire Black and White’ timber framed manor house, with origins dating back to Medieval England. The weather was wonderful as you can see from the photograph below. I am very happy with the hundred or so images that I captured today; including many interesting close ups of flowers.
