Another mystery but rather than a flower this time it is a piece of sculpture. Every time I photograph something like this I hunt around the area for a small plaque with information, such as the artist and title of the piece. After ten minutes I gave up my hunt. This was taken less than five minutes walk from the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona. I love the lines on the ground and how they lead your eye to the huge spine in the centre of this small garden.
Policeman at the Door – Model Village
Policeman at the door is a photograph that came out of a trip to Southport. Mark wanted to see the Southport Model Railway / Village and although I wasn’t keen at first it turned out to be an interesting photo opportunity. The image captured above was a lighting nightmare because of the high contrast in the dynamic range between the bright white of the model house and the dark shadow area of the bush to the left. Thank god for RAW that’s all I can say!
I am not sure what the policeman on the right is doing but I will leave that up to your imagination, always enjoy photos that tell a story, even if it is in model form.
World of Nikons
Here we see a number of old Nikon film SLR (single lens reflex) cameras taken at a second hand camera shop in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. My friend Kov took me there for the first time earlier this year to have his recently purchased macro lens looked at. Whilst there I ended up buying a Vivitar macro adapter for my 50mm lens. Whilst testing the camera I felt these old cameras looks quite interesting and were worth photographing to show you.
Calton Hill Cannon, Edinburgh
The Calton Hill Canon and National Monument seem to work well in this photo, which was more of a test than anything. Again it was using the Sigma 10-20mm super wide angle lens to get everything in. Having such a wide angle (more than your field of view) makes things distorted and here I would have anticipated that the distortions would be much worse than they actually are. The barrel of the canon is much shorter than it appears here, but the National Monument in the top right of the frame does not show converging verticals, probably because of the low angle the camera was pointing in order to include the yellow foliage in the bottom left. I feel this yellow contrasts well against the blue of the sky.
