The Pygmy Hippopotamus is one of the creatures I rarely see in a zoo. On my third visit to Edinburgh Zoo I was walking past the seemingly empty enclosure when this little chap came out of the water and ran across the grass. He is native to the forests and swamps of western Africa ad unlike normal hippos which are very social animals, the pygmy tends to live alone or in pairs.
