Colosseum Interior

In comparison to the iconic look and shape of the outside of this world famous amphitheatre, the inside isn’t often seen. On the overcast morning I captured the above wide angle photograph you can see why. There are hundreds of people (even when I went in winter) queuing up, paying their money and then after a long wait climbing up two or three flights of stairs surrounded by a big crowd to finally be greeted by this view. Don’t get me wrong, this place is amazing, it is one of the wonders of the world and is nearly 2000 years old. When it was used as an amphitheatre it would seat over 50,000 spectators. Personally I would not recommend going around the colosseum without a guide, as it was the guided tour that brought the place alive and explained the history and the facts about this world famous building.
