Civic Square Wellington

In the city centre, just across the road from the harbour is Civic Square. It was designed by architect Ian Athfield and completed in 1991. For a square over 20 years old it looks very modern. In the photograph above you can see the central library building on the right and offices on the left. In and around this area are about a dozen sculptures. The large silver ball suspended in the air is called Ferns by artist Neil Dawson. It is made from 11 aluminium sheets, painted silver on the outside and gold on the inside.
