Cutting a Coconut

Here we see a lady is cutting up a coconut, at the waters edge of a canal. I was in the Damnoen Saduak district of Thailand. A couple of hours drive west of Bangkok, it has miles of picturesque canals. The area is famous for its daily, floating markets. Sadly, this has become a busy and popular tourist attraction. As a result, the market has lost much of its authenticity. In many ways, as a tourist myself, I was fueling this. The organised tour I was on took us on a boat trip outside of the market. This was a fantastic way to see how people lived on and around these canals.
