Anderton Boat Lift, Cheshire

On the way back from my grandparents house today I stopped at the Anderton Boat Lift in Northwich. Built in 1875, the boat lift was used for over 100 years until it was closed due to corrosion in 1983. Thanks to a great deal of local fund raising and National Lottery grants it was restored and opened to the public in 2002. It is one of two working boat lifts in the UK, the other is in Scotland which I will be visiting in two weeks time. It wasn’t the best day to photograph the lift but I thought I would share this pictured with you as it went to the trouble of getting there. I hope to go back in the next few months.
