Vintage telescope on Eiffel Tower

A brass and chrome telescope focused on a cityscape, revealing urban structures and roads from afar.

After walking around the Eiffel Tower observation deck pointing my camera at the skyline and snapping photos in every direction I wanted to capture something different. This shiny chrome and brass vintage-style telescope caught my eye. It was in a very crowded area so I didn’t get as much chance to compose this with the River Seine on the right third. You can just make out a bit of the river on the far right of the image. The other challenge was the telescopes weight at the back kept it pointing to the sky unless held up. So to get this without my hand holding it took a few attempts.

Montparnasse Tower

A vibrant cityscape showcasing a tall building standing out in the background.

Tour Maine-Montparnasse is a tall concrete, steel and glass office skyscraper in Paris. The city building height limit is 37 metres, which is about 12 floors. This makes it stand out from the rest of the cities buildings. The Tour Montparnasse is 210 metres and 60 floors. It was built in 1969 before the height laws were passed. This photograph was taken from the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. Next time I’m in Paris I will be sure to visit the Montparnasse Tower Observation deck as it looks like a great place to photograph Paris’ iconic skyline.

Shanghai skyline at night

Shanghai skyline at night

This view was the reason I wanted to visit Shanghai. The tall building lit up with purple lights is the Oriental Pearl Tower. The two largest spheres are around 50 metres in diameter. Opened in 1994 this tower is a symbol of Chinese architecture. The larger but further away building on the right. Lit up in yellow is the Shanghai Tower. This 632 metre tall tower is the second largest building in the world.
