Trevi Fountain at Night

Trevi Fountain at Night

The Trevi fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in Rome and one of the most famous fountains in the world. As a big fan of fountain photography, particularly at night, this was one of my greatest challenges of late. Again this was a location that I had to visit half a dozen times during my week in Rome. During the day it was very busy, evenings were extremely busy and people kept kicking the tripod or walking in front of the lens. The above photograph was taken at 6:30 on a Wednesday morning when I had the place completely to myself.

Vespa Gift Shop

Vespa Gift Shop

These iconic scooters have interested me ever since I stumbled across a little red Vespa in Barcelona. It is one of my favourite photos and one that I keep on the wall of my office. Walking down a small back street I came across this gift shop that seemed full of Vespa merchandise. I was tempted to buy a bag, or at least a fridge magnet, but I resisted the temptation. This photograph is enough of a record for me.

Colosseum at night

The Colosseum in Rome lit up to highlight its ancient achitecture under a clear dark blue sky with a stone path leading towards it.

The Colosseum was the reason that I spent last week in Rome and the reason I have wanted to visit Italy’s capital for many years. I visited this area over 6 times in the week I was there to get a couple of decent photos at different times of day. The above was taken at about half past six in the morning. I had been one evening, but the crowds meant that this photograph would have been impossible. Getting out of bed early was worth it that morning!

Oranges on Market Stall

Oranges on Market Stall

European markets are fantastic, combine them with a fast lens to give those silky soft backgrounds and its a photographer’s dream. The above photograph was taken at Campo de Fiori, one of the main markets in the capital. I originally thought that these were blood oranges, but after searching online they don’t seem a dark enough red. Anyone want to comment on whether or not these are blood oranges?
