This was the first time I had seen this new bridge and to be honest it was a bit too dark to do it justice on it’s own, so I included the new BBC offices to the right. It is certainly worth a couple of return trips at dusk to properly capture this with a deep dark blue sky behind it. Still for a first attempt I loved the reflection, so it made it through my selection process for the website.
The Lowry from Media City
With the new Media City developments now open to the public, we get a chance to photograph the Lowry Theatre and Millennium Bridge from a completely different angle. The almost black of this sky combined with the very bright lights in the theatre made this exposure need more post-processing than I would have liked. The water was perfect and flat which gave me this fantastic reflection, but I would have liked more blue in the sky. This is certainly another photograph that is a work in progress that I hope to retake in the coming months.
Media City Piazza
Media City Piazza opened to the public in the last 12 months and I was recently at The Quays with my camera at night exploring this new area. In front of the BBC centre there are great views across the water towards the Lowry theatre. As you can see it was very quiet and I wonder how this will change over the next year as the BBC and Granada move a lot of their operations into the buildings surrounding this courtyard.
BBC Media City
Media City is a new development at Salford Quays for the BBC and the media industry. In the foreground, on the right we can see the Lowry concert hall and across the water is the main glass BBC building with Studios behind. The taller other buildings are either hotels or new apartment blocks. There is soon to be a bridge across the water to the left over the Manchester Ship Canal. This image was captured whilst stood on the Millennium Bridge.
