The DUKW (pronounced duck) was originally designed for the American military. It is a six-wheeled-drive amphibious truck which can be seen here driving out of the Salthouse Dock on its daily tour of Liverpool and the Albert Docks. When you spot these vehicles on the road, it is very obvious that they look like boats due to the design. But when in the water they look like a normal boat, because the wheels are hidden under the water. I had planned this photograph and waited about ten minutes after seeing it sail off around the docks, but someone who was looking at the boat and not realising it was amphibious must get quite a shock when they see this monster driving out of the water.
