I am spending this weekend in London for a family wedding. Most of us are staying in a hotel in the Docklands area, but we decided to go down a day early and make a weekend of it. We wanted to get out with our cameras (that is my dad and I did). This afternoon after we had checked into our hotel we got the Docklands Light Railway and then the Tube to Westminster. It was raining slightly when I took this photograph. The light wasn’t great but using a monopod to keep the camera steady really helped. I am planning to revisit this same spot later in the year. I can just see this photo now with a gorgeous blue sky.
Esk River near Stanley Ghyll
I took the above photo the Saturday morning (4th November). It is a small section of the interesting Esk River as we were walking up to the Stanley Ghyll falls. Sadly, I had forgotten to take my tripod and mono-pod this weekend, but I managed to borrow my dads for this shoot. Strictly speaking I should have had the camera on a tripod to get the white water effects of using a slow shutter speed.
River Mersey at Didsbury
After the cinema and a nice meal at Pizza Hut we managed to miss the bus by five minutes. So rather than waiting for half an hour for the next one we started to walk away from Parrswood (Didsbury) towards Cheadle. Before we got the bus I took a couple of photos from the bridge over the River Mersey. I often wait here as it is very close to the gym I go to.
Maud Foster Windmill – Boston, Lincolnshire
On the way to Skegness we went through the town of Boston (not the New England Boston) but the original Boston in Lincolnshire which dates back to 1545. Whilst passing through the town I saw a large Windmill. On the way back from Skegness we all decided to stop and go for a coffee and check out the Maud Foster Windmill. It is one of the largest operating windmills in England and was built in 1819 at the cost of around £1826 or around $3700 USD (which was a large sum in those days). I climbed the narrow ladders up the seven floors right to the top, it is very interesting, a good afternoon out especially for families with younger (under 12) children.
