Last week I spent a couple of days taking photographs at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Ever since Kov pointed it out to me I have been looking for an opportunity to come back with my tripod and camera to take better photos. Impressive as the theatre itself is, the entrance from St. Ann’s Square is just as impressive in my opinion. In the above photograph we see a detail of a neon sign which is under the walkway between the two main staircases. Behind me is the glass lift and the reflection on the glass walkway above was what caught my eye. It was a difficult image to capture without putting a couple of flash guns on the stairs. Fortunately I always shoot RAW on my camera and I was able to recover the detail in these dark shadow areas to a level similar to what my eye saw when composing this photograph in the viewfinder.
