Kniphofia uvaria, more commonly known as a Red Hot Poker, is one of my favourite flowers and something I have tried to capture on film many times. The problem with this plant from my point of view is the shape. Being long and thin it doesn’t lend itself well to a landscape aspect ratio photograph. As I have previously discussed, all the images on edwud photography are in similar proportions, so I tend to use a lot of negative space. Here I chose to desaturate the colour using Photoshop. Looking at it now I feel it would have been even better with a more blurred background to remove some of the distractions to the right of the flower. This post processing technique has really enhanced the red hot colour of the flower head.
