Italian Street Lamp

Italian Street Lamp

Sadly I had no record of where I was in Rome when I took this street lamp. We spent a wonderful week in the Italian capital back in January 2011 when we had blue skies like this almost all week. The ironwork on this lamp is what caught my eye and obviously the clear blue background makes it stand out even more.

Spray Paint Artist in the Street

Spray Paint Artist in the Street

We came across this street artist spray painting in Piazza Navona, a square in Rome, Italy. Hence the amazing piece featuring the Colosseum. I probably spent a good ten to fifteen minutes watching him work, there was a crowd of about twenty people gathered around him watching him paint. If you look closely you can see the stencil that he used for the Colosseum to the left of him.

There are hundreds of churches in Rome, but this photo shows the top of Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio a Trevi. As the name suggests it is near the world famous Trevi Fountain. With hundreds of tourists walking past it every day, focusing on seeing the fountain and blinded to anything else, it was quite upsetting standing by the fountain looking away from it to get this photograph. I got some very strange looks, but the fountain was in horrible shade, the setting sun was shinning on this building and it really lit up.

Seagull in front of the Colosseum

Seagull in front of the Colosseum

To me (not a bird watcher) this looks like a seagull. They seem to get everywhere. Here we were wondering around the Roman Forum listening to our very good tour guide and I was taking photos. Sometimes you have to stand back from the camera and just look around. It was in doing this that I noticed this seagull sitting quite close to our large group. The Colosseum background seemed somehow fitting. As if he was guarding this ancient site from other birds?
