The Palm Jumeirah gave me a great view of Atlantis The Palm. However if you’re not staying at this luxury hotel resort, the other option is to go to the water park. I didn’t have any intention of doing either of these, so decided to explore what I could of the resort. The Avenues is a small shopping mall of luxury boutiques and expensive looking restaurants. The photograph above shows a mural on one of the ceilings. To be honest it was a bit like how I imagine Disney Land to be. Still I thought the mural was definitely worth recording.
Atlantis The Palm Dubai
This luxury hotel resort is at the top of the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. The palm itself is probably best seen from the air, as it is an artificial group of islands in the shape of a palm tree that is 3 by 3 miles and has a total area larger than 800 football pitches. Well I decided that although images from a helicopter or plane would have been fun, it isn’t happening on this trip. So I took the monorail and above is the view through the window of the hotel.
Burj Khalifa at Night
The reason I came to Dubai was for this photograph. Taken last night on my first evening in the city I am pretty happy with it. That said I might return at dusk or dawn before I move on. Even with the 10mm Sigma super wide angle lens it was tricky to get the very top of the world’s tallest building in the frame. At 830 metres (2723 feet) to the tip it makes sense that I had to stand a little back from the building to get this image. In the foreground you can see the Burj Khalifa Lake which is man made and huge.
Emirates Towers Dubai Skyline
This morning I landed in Dubai. Above is the first photograph that I took looking west from outside the International Exhibition Centre. The twin towers in the foreground with triangular shaped roofs are the Emirates Towers and positioned between them is the famous Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building). So far the camera is holding up better than I am in this 40+ degrees C heat, but it is worth it for views like this.
