One of the more dramatic looking peaks in Auckland is One Tree Hill. It’s distinguishing feature is the large obelisk on the top. When Auckland was founded as a colonial town in the mid 19th century, there was a lone tree near the summit. Sadly this was cut down and replaced a number of times over the years. From this low, zoomed in view point it is impossible to see the crowds that gather around the base of the obelisk.
