National Monument, Edinburgh

This is my favourite photograph taken in Edinburgh. It is the second image of this monument that I have published here. It shows that for the best images it is worth looking at the direction of the sunlight as well as the weather forecast. This was taken on my first of the three walks to the top of Calton Hill, when I was researching the light direction for my Princes Street photo. In the late afternoon sun (in the opposite direction) the sun is behind me as I captured this image. I waited between half an hour and forty five minutes for people to get out of the way. As you can imagine hundreds of tourists make the walk to this location and climb up on the monument for their group photos. Worth the wait I feel!
