In the foreground is the alpine Lake Pukaki. It is the ideal foreground for the Southern Alps landscape. At 3754 metres (or 12,316 feet) this is the highest mountain in New Zealand. Looking on the map at where I stood to capture this photograph, I was over 30 miles away from the peak. Fortunately, it was the first clear day of the year when this was taken, after a three day storm.
if you were 30 miles away from the peak you can really see how big the mountain is. I love all the cloud over the top of the mountain, almost looks like a snow storm
