Driving around the Coromandel is a fantastic way to spend a weekend. I was staying in a bach (holiday home) right at the top of the peninsula just a few hours drive from Auckland. Coromandel is also the name of the town and harbour you can see in the foreground of this photograph, with McGregor Bay behind. Whanganui Island is the main island in the bay. On the horizon is Waiheke Island and the area of North Island north of Auckland.
