Many areas of Southport’s town centre have undergone major redevelopment in the last decade. The largest scheme was the construction of the Marine Way Bridge (seen above) which opened in May 2004. The bridge connects the Lord Street shopping district with the new seafront developments. This 150-foot (46 m) high structure is thought to have cost in the region of five million pounds.
