Built at the end of the 19th century this is New Zealand’s only castle. Although I had heard of it, it was almost by accident that I came across it whilst driving around the Otago Peninsula just east of Dunedin. It was the residence of William Larnach, an entrepreneur and politician. In my view this is more of styled mansion than a castle. That said, the gardens that surround the property and the views down to the valleys and sea below made it well worth the visit.
