An hour west of Christchurch I came to this glacial lake just off the Great Alpine Highway. It is a small lake with pretty low water levels. Probably as this photograph was taken in the summer. Looking at the map, the mountains on the other side of the lake are over 1000 metres, although they are (like many in the central South Island) unnamed. This was one of the first landscape photographs I took that day, just ten minutes drive north from here I came to Castle Hill limestone boulders.
