After exploring much of the more popular tourist spots in New Zealand, the Coromandel is a breath of fresh air in comparison. On public holidays, it gets very busy. However, I recently spent a weekend on the peninsula just east of Auckland. As you can see from my photograph above, it is steep and hilly with few people living there. This is Kirita Bay, taken from the top of a hill. Behind the bay is Cave Point. You can even make out the east coast side of Waiheke Island on the horizon.
