I have featured this heron a couple of times, going about his fishing adventures on the Water of Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is the latest and although not my favourite, I really like the shape of this huge bird as he flies so low, just above the water. The wings might be blurred, but I was recently listening to an interview with a great wildlife and natural history photographer. He said that photographing animals is similar to people. If the eyes are sharp everything else can be blurred, as the eyes are the focal point, whether you are talking about a person or a heron. Remembering that this bird was moving, I felt that my panning technique worked a treat.
