Harbour looking towards Dunstanburgh Castle

I was unsure about this photograph from the moment I clicked the shutter. Craster Harbour and Dunstanburgh Castle are two of the classic locations for a photographer visiting Northumberland in my opinion. This huge structure in the foreground is on the edge of the harbour wall at Craster, but I have no idea what it is for. So I decided it was for photographers to frame Dunstanburgh Castle along the shore in the distance. Maybe one of you reading this has some idea of what it could have been used for originally?
