With something like the Falkirk Wheel it is almost impossible to give you an idea of what it is like from a single photograph. Really, it would be one of those things best seen on video. But, for now this is Ed O’Keeffe Photography, not video and I take still pictures, so you will have to make do with this second picture I am publishing on the wheel. The first photo shows the Falkirk Wheel from below, on the other side of the canal looking towards where I am standing to take this image. Comparing the two photographs, this probably gives a better idea of what the boat lift does and how it works. You can see a red canal boat in the nearest caisson (boat container).
