Cobb & Co. coach, pulled by between four and eight horses and accommodating up to 27 passengers, used on the Springfield to Hokitika route. Legendary coach driver Ned Devine came to Otago from Australia towards the end of 1863. Devine drove mostly on the Dunedin to Palmerston to Dunstan route until it closed and is picture at Pamerston in the 1870s. With the advent of the railways in the 1870s, coach services gradually shrank. With the introduction of motor vehicles, they disappeared.
