This is one of the buildings that I had driven past a number of times, but had never stopped to photograph. Turns out that it is Chester Castle, which stands on a raised area overlooking the River Dee and is sited at the southwest extremity of the area bounded by the city walls. It was built in 1070 by Hugh Lupus, the first Earl of Chester, but today is part of the Crown Courts buildings.
