Just below the steps at the summit of Mount Victoria sits this huge bronze cannon. Between 1877 and 1900 it was used to fire the noon signal. The lookout at the summit gives fantastic views north into the capital city. The background in this photograph shows Wellington International Airport. It’s short runway sitting between Evans Bay and Lyall Bay. In the distant horizon is the Cook Strait, the 14 mile gap of sea between the two main islands of New Zealand.
