Autumn Tree in the Lake District

Whilst spending the week in Alston I took a day trip down into the heart of Cumbria, the Lake District and an hour or two before sunset I spotted this tree in the middle of a large field on its own. Making sure there weren’t any animals in the field I climbed over the dry stone wall and got as close to the tree as my wide angle 18mm lens would let me. Using a graduated natural density filter (borrowed from my friend John), I was able to keep the detail in the bright blue sky as well as the much darker shadow areas at the bottom of the frame. I like the way that the orange / red leaves contrast with the bright blue of the sky in this image.
