The Albatross by Tanya Ashken was one of the first pieces of sculpture on the capital’s waterfront. This piece of modern art was installed in 1986 and creates an interesting focal point next to the Lagoon. I first saw this in a photograph taken by my friend Mark a few years ago. Visiting back in February the sky wasn’t quite as blue but last months trip there was clear blue skies for the whole weekend, despite it being the middle of winter here in New Zealand.
