We came across this street artist spray painting in Piazza Navona, a square in Rome, Italy. Hence the amazing piece featuring the Colosseum. I probably spent a good ten to fifteen minutes watching him work, there was a crowd of about twenty people gathered around him watching him paint. If you look closely you can see the stencil that he used for the Colosseum to the left of him.

This was taken as we were near the end of our day walking in the Lake District mountains near Lingmell. We had just overtaken this couple of hill walkers and as the woman on the right with the yellow bag was struggling, I looked back. It seemed to make for a nice photograph with the light and as I had my camera around my neck I grabbed a couple of quick snaps. It shows the path we were walking along on the far right of the frame.

As I was approaching the famous market at Compo de’ Fiori in Rome, I noticed this market seller stacking up empty wooden boxes which, as far as I could tell, had had fruit and vegetables in which he had now sold. Due to the low light conditions and distracting backgrounds I used my 50mm f/1.8 lens to make sure the man and his boxes were nice and sharp but the people and stalls in the background were out of focus and therefore not distracting from the scene that I was looking to capture.

Walking around city centres and capital cities you see people from all walks of life. The man in the above photograph was a very good musician, but from his expression he didn’t approve of my photographing him. Still I like the way the distracting background has been blurred away but he is perfectly sharp (apart from slight movement on the bow and his right hand).
