Sat in my Great Aunt’s house was this lovely pink orchid which was crying out for its photograph to be taken. I had put it off a couple of times due to time constraints, but recently I had my camera with me and a spare five minutes to capture the above image. I like the pink, red and purple colours in the flower and the soft brown out of focus background makes the image appear more three dimensional.

Another closeup or macro shot of the inside of a rose flower. Here I was trying to get as much sharp as possible, so I took off the closeup filter and used the straight 50mm prime lens. This was a massive rose flower and this made life a little easier, although it was difficult to get the colour right in the camera.

Another in my series of very close-up detail photographs of flower heads. As previously discussed I focused mainly on purple, red and pink colours. I have no idea what the name of this flower is and as much as I broke the “rule of thirds” by placing this flower head in the centre of the frame, I think it works well, especially the way the focus drops off very quickly due to the shallow depth of field.

Roses are in my opinion one of the most interesting flowers to photograph as they are all different, but yet almost always recognisably roses. This yellow rose (I’m no good with proper plant names) was found in Alnwick Garden this summer up in Northumberland. Although not as good as some of my other close up flower images, I love the bright yellow colour, so thought it was worth sharing.
