This is another rather abstract image to illustrate the word “bokeh”. Tomorrow’s post will show a sharp version of this image, but before I publish it, does anyone have any idea what this could be?

The above photo is more than a little experimental, even for me. It was coming to the end of the day and it was a day that had involved a lot of walking. I looked up and noticed an interesting sky and saw the old village sign post and hoped to combine the two elements. Well after about five or ten minutes of playing around this was the result. It isn’t great, but it is the best I could get at the time. I had to use the pop-up flash on my camera to give a little light onto the sign as my external speed light was sat at home. I often have to make the call between taking all my gear and not going as far or seeing as much, or leaving some equipment at home but being able to walk and explore more. Recently I have been choosing the second option, although I have a lot more planned photo shoots than ever before coming in the next three or four months.

Spending an afternoon walking around Dunham park looking for good snow scenes was very enjoyable, but I wanted to try to capture some close-up detail photographs. This was the best I came away with in the end. Without the patches of blue sky in the background it would be a awful photograph, but I like how heavy the snow seems on the very thin branches. It seems that if there were to be a slight wind, my camera’s lens would probably fill with snow, as it would come crashing down on me!

So I was stood under the M8 motorway bridge going over the River Clyde in Glasgow, capturing an HDR image of the underside of the bridge and looked down to realise, this part of the towpath was not only cobbled but also lit by lovely orange light. It had to be shot and after moving the camera and tripod around to get the right angle, I was able to capture the above long exposure of the cobbles. I really like the pattern as well as the colour and for some reason, it doesn’t look as if the image was artificially lit, to me anyway!
