Here we can see the full Lowry Theatre and if you look closely the aerofoil canopy at the entrance. I have recently being exploring new areas and the views of the buildings that come with them. This angle on the Lowry is one I am particularly pleased with. Taken on an early summer evening; it probably looks even better on a sunny morning with the sun behind the camera.

This aerofoil is part of a canopy at the entrance to the Lowry, which is a theatre and gallery complex in Salford Quays. It caught my eye due to the way that the sunlight, which was reflected off a nearby glass clad office block, was creating this interesting pattern on the steel work. The apartments in the background are called Imperial Point.

On a clear day there are some great views of some of the taller buildings in Manchester city centre from Salford Quays. Here we can clearly make out the Hilton / Beetham Tower on Deansgate and also the Portland and City Towers. In the foreground we have two massive blue cranes and Holiday Inn Express. The long zoom lens used for this photograph compresses the distances and makes the city centre appear much closer than it actually is to The Quays.

For those of you who may never have visited the modern redevelopments at Salford Quays (now known simply as The Quays) there are three apartment buildings in a row like the above. They curve at the front like sails and look great at dusk / night. Here I wanted to capture a close up wide angle to exaggerate the curve. The sky behind really helped, but direct sunlight on the front of the building would have really made it more interesting. Looking closely you can almost make out the types of things people keep on their balconies!
