The Digital World Centre office building in Salford Quays has a unique glass pattern and curve. According to a little research, it houses some of the offices relating to the up and coming Media City complex just across the water. In fact you can see reflections of some the construction (such as parts of cranes) in the lower windows. This photograph was captured at about 9pm so I suspect few people were still at their desks.

Having walked around the Quays dozens of times over the years, it is great to find new angles, particularly on some of the more unusual pieces of architecture in the area such as the Lowry Theatre or the Imperial War Museum. Above we can see the side of the Lowry Theatre. Behind these metal blinds are the offices for the theatre staff and below (just out of the frame) is the actors’ entrance.

I have been determined to record a sunrise or sunset on the new buildings at Salford Quays. This building (as I understand it) will be the new BBC head quarters. This was a very difficult photograph to capture and I ended up having to bracket the exposures (5 frames) and then merge the different exposures to create the above effect. Certainly one of my favourite high dynamic range photographs so far.

A couple of weeks ago I went for an evening drive around Salford Quays with my camera. I decided to pick up something to eat at the Asda opposite the Trafford Centre and then drove down towards the Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry. On my way I stumbled across the Trafford Park Hotel (now boarded up). I pulled the car into a side road and ran over to capture this record before someone comes along and burns it down, knocks it down or converts it into apartments!
