This skyscape illustrates the compression of perspective really well. I was stood outside the Lowry Shopping Centre looking towards the Beetham Tower / Hilton Hotel (on the right of the image). Looking for something to frame the skyline on the left I noticed the balconies of the apartments looking out toward the city centre. So zooming my camera out to 200mm, I was able to capture the above framing of Manchester’s skyline.

So this is how the sky is kept in place! I’ve wanted to get a photograph of the chain in Trafford Park for many, many years, but never seemed to be in the right place at the right time with my camera. Well a few weeks ago I was and so here is the best so far. Sadly the chain itself was in the shade, although the clear blue sky behind helps.

Mark suggested I should take more photographs of Old Trafford football ground, home to the world famous football club Manchester United. As you can see, from this angle it is a huge football stadium next door to Salford Quays. In fact this image was captured on the viewing platform of the Imperial War Museum North. From this angle however the stadium is pretty ugly in my opinion (United fans won’t like me for saying that). I am sure given the right lighting (maybe at night or dusk) and the right view point, I will get an interesting and unique photo of this iconic building.

Here we see a couple of dozen empty sun beds with the sun on them but nobody using them. I love the curve of the swimming pool to the right of the frame. It does give the impression that we had the place to ourselves, as this is where we stayed for 10 days in Portugal a few weeks ago. Due to the long shadows it could looks as if it was taken in the morning; however it was taken at about 7 or 8 o’clock in the evening.
