Here we can see the first light on Wastwater. It was taken last November and I loved the still reflective water that was clearer than any lake I have seen before. This is why I choose to capture the image with a super wide 10mm Sigma lens. It made the mountain range at the top of the image seem a lot further away, but it captured more of the details I intended recording like the reflection of a tiny cloud on the right of the frame.

This was the second time I have been to this jetty. On my first ever photography trip to the Lake District a few years ago it was one of the first places where I felt that I had finally got a half decent landscape shot featuring the famous Coniston Water. So this November it was near the top of the list of places to return to with Kay and see what more I could take. Last time the light wasn’t as strong but there were a few boats in the water. Still I was drawn to take this again as the direction of the sunlight gave great shadows.

In November last year I drove up to the Lake District (Eskdale area) to stay with a group of photographers for the weekend. On the way up the weather was stunning, clear blue skies and nice warm lighting. I stopped off at the High Cross Inn for a quick drink (soft drink obviously). As I was stood here taking a photo of the inn, my parents drove past in their car (they were coming up to stay for the weekend as well). I tried to wave but my dad didn’t see me and drove on to where we were staying!

After a slightly disappointing sunset Kay and I headed back to the car. Looking back up to the “Pikes of Sca Fell” I saw this scene. The sun had gone down behind the mountains behind us, but was still lighting up the clouds above the pikes. This is the highest mountain in England and I wish to finally climb it next summer all being well.
