I didn’t take many photographs on my walk to the top of Scafell Pike. Mainly because it was raining and cloudy. However I liked the effect of the low cloud as we came out of the clouds and Wastwater appeared in front of us. I didn’t spend a long time composing this photo as I knew we still had a long way to walk down to the lake, but it was more of a record of the day. I can just image how amazing this view would look on a clear day or at sunset!

This year I finally completed my three peaks challenge. I had walked up Ben Nevis on my own a couple of years ago. In the last month I went up Snowdon with Ciaran and more recently with Mark, Tom and Rachel to the top of Scafell Pike. The above photograph was taken on our walk down the mountain back to my car at Wasdale Head. Looking at the OS map it was taken in the Lingmell area and the tarns are probably Styhead Tarn and / or Sprinkling Tarn.

Sadly the very top of Scafell is covered with the low cloud cover. The spot where this photograph was taken is one of my favourite places I have so far found in the Lake District National Park. It is miles from any main roads and takes a while to get there, but even on cloudy days such as this the view looking north west down the lake is worth the effort to get here. The mountain on the right of the frame leads up to Illgill Head.

This was the third time I had visited Wastwater, which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful and picturesque lakes in the Lake District National Park. However with this low cloud cover it wasn’t as amazing as I had once seen it. Although after the two hour or more drive I had just done it was definitely worth recording it. Especially as we were about to walk up Scafell, which is the mountain on the right side of the photograph and the highest in England.
