I have been trying to work out for a couple of years how to capture all three of Blackpool’s piers in one photograph. Yes I could go to the top of the tower and use a super wide angle lens, but it wouldn’t be the same. I was stood at the end of North Pier looking south. The “family bar” is at the end of Central Pier and in the distance you can see the big dipper roller coaster of Blackpool Pleasure Beach resort and the two tall towers of South Pier’s reverse bungie ride.

I never went inside the Happy Dayz arcade, for all I can remember it could have been closed. I did think that the contrast between the traditional columns and architectural detailing around the windows compared to the happy sun character made it worth capturing a photo.

Another sunset from the North West coast, this time a little further north than Crosby beach and as much as I like the outline of the pier and the reflection at the very bottom of the frame, it isn’t quite as special for me as the Another Place / Crosby Beach Sunset image I published a few days ago. That said I really love the rays of light that are beaming down onto the water.

The bright lights and neon colours of the English seaside resort of Blackpool are often very appealing to photograph. Especially when the sky is blue as it was when this was taken. However the lights weren’t on as the above photograph was taken in the daytime and the whole scene was very much void of colour. This made me think it would make an interesting and moody monochrome or black and white photograph.
