Font Màgica fountain in Orange

Flying to a new city such as Barcelona with today’s low baggage weight meant that taking a large and heavy tripod in my suitcase was a hard decision to make. That was until I found out I was going to have a chance to see the wonderful Font Màgica (magic fountains) outside the Palau Nacional museum. Using a long exposure setting on the camera, I was able to capture the fantastic blur of the water as it carried up the warm orange light. To give you a better idea of scale, there is a man stood in front of the fountain at the bottom of the frame.

Edinburgh’s National Monument at Night
about 2 years ago - 1 comment
This was one of my most successful night shoots of last year, on top of Calton Hill in Edinburgh in December. This is by far my favourite area of the city for photography and as much as I had been many times before this was a first at night. Having had a previous photo of…
The Mound, Edinburgh at Night
about 2 years ago - No comments
The road in the photograph is the Mound which leads from Princes Street up to High Street AKA The Royal Mile. I thought that the Christmas lights on the trees made a great looking photo although the reflections on the road and pavement weren’t quite as I had hoped. The white and red light trails…
Edinburgh’s Big Wheel at Night
about 2 years ago - No comments
Opposite the prestigious department store Jenners is this Ferris Wheel in Princes Gardens. As this photo is taken at night you can’t see the Scott Monument behind the wheel, but I wanted to capture the interesting light display as it moved slowly around. Obviously this is a nice long exposure of five seconds, which makes…
New York Skyline with Sailing Boat
about 2 years ago - No comments
Some of the best views of New York city can be found from Liberty Island, site of the beautiful Statue of Liberty. New York is the only place in America that I have visited and probably the biggest city I have been to so far. I would love to take more great skyscapes of huge…
Purple Street Art / Urban Graffiti
about 3 years ago - 3 comments
This is the third example of urban graffiti or street art from Barcelona that I wanted to share with you. All three were taken along the same stretch of wall near the harbour. What I would like to know is if any of you can work out what this word says. I would presume it…
Casa Batlló Building, Barcelona

Out of the examples of Gaudi’s work that I have photographed so far, this is one of the most awkward, because of the buildings placement in the city of Barcelona. With a long lens you can capture its extraordinary details, but to get the full frontal view is almost impossible without many distracting elements. Standing…
Gaudi Architectural Detail at Park Guell
about 3 years ago - No comments
Gaudi spent years of his life designing and working on Park Guell in the city of Barcelona. So much so he lived in a house in the grounds. The detailing pictured here is above one of the small windows of this house. At the time I was chilling out on a bench after a hard…
Skull Fresh Graffiti in Barcelona
about 3 years ago - 1 comment
Since photographing some great examples of graffiti in Manchester and Salford, I was keeping my eyes open for walls of Barcelona’s street art that I had heard so much about. Here I used a 18mm wide angle lens, so I could get nice and close to the walls and not get trees or street furniture…
La Rambla – Barcelona
about 3 years ago - No comments
La Rambla is an iconic and busy street in central Barcelona, popular with both tourists and locals alike. Obviously coming to this city to photograph of much of it as I could, La Rambla was near the top of my list. However with the angle of the sun and tall buildings on either side of…
Barcelona Harbour

Getting up the hilly areas around cities such as Edinburgh, or in this case Barcelona, can be hard work, especially with a lot of heavy camera gear in 30 degree heat, but it was worth the effort for the above photo. This view of Barcelona’s Harbour was taken from edge of the Gardens of Joan…
