Youth Centre Graffiti in Moss Side

Two photographs of Graffiti from Manchester’s Hulme / Moss Side area for you today. Both of these images were captured yesterday on a walk around the outskirts of Manchester. They were seen on the walls of the Procters Young Peoples Centre just off the Mancunion Way. I really liked the message they gave and after reading them it was hard to not pick up the camera and photograph them.
However, the reason not all of the graffiti has been included was it was an overcast day, and as such I choose to stick with my 50mm fixed lens. No zooming in or out meant I couldn’t include more, but fortunately I was able to get the majority of the text in the two pictures, giving you a message that is worth reading. Not all graffiti is a crime, some graffiti is important and it is art (especially in these two cases).

Barge on Bridgewater Canal

I wanted to make this photograph a little special using digital post production, as I thought that it captured a great little moment. When I took the snap I didn’t see the man’s arm pointing or the two women sat under the umbrella. However when looking through my photographs at the end of the day,
Westminster Bridge Light
about 7 months ago - No comments
This ornate street lamp was photographed on Westminster Bridge, near Big Ben, the houses of Parliament and the London Eye. Apart from the great style and gold details the painted side of the lamps caught my eye and made me wonder why this side of the street lamps are painted. I suppose there could be
Edinburgh’s Big Wheel at Night

Opposite the prestigious department store Jenners is this Ferris Wheel in Princes Gardens. As this photo is taken at night you can’t see the Scott Monument behind the wheel, but I wanted to capture the interesting light display as it moved slowly around. Obviously this is a nice long exposure of five seconds, which makes
Urban Graffiti Art in Glasgow

Walking along the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow I was there for one reason and one reason only, for photography! As much as the above image wasn’t the most exciting I captured that day, I really like this urban image. I think that the graffiti tags combined with the warm afternoon winter sunlight
Go Penguins Art of Liverpool
about 8 months ago - No comments
“Go Penguins” is the new celebratory public art event taking place throughout Liverpool, St Helens and the Wirral and it really reminds me of the “Cow Parade” a few years ago in Manchester. Mark and Rachel suggested a walk around Liverpool to see and photograph a few of them. The above two were in the
Gateshead Millennium Bridge

The more I photograph bridges and architecture, the more I like the results when converted to monochrome or black and white. Especially in this case, as the blue sky almost becomes black and the clouds add an interesting extra element to the image. The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist tilt bridge spanning
Purple Street Art / Urban Graffiti

This is the third example of urban graffiti or street art from Barcelona that I wanted to share with you. All three were taken along the same stretch of wall near the harbour. What I would like to know is if any of you can work out what this word says. I would presume it
Lambrini Bottle Pattern

Lambrini is a light perry drink (similar to cider but made from peaches). Personally it isn’t something I drink, but a couple of the people I live with in a student flat really enjoy their drink (as you can see). So rather than throw the bottles away, I thought it would be an interesting experiment
Great Northern Tower, Manchester

Standing at Gmex Metrolink Station one afternoon waiting for a tram, I noticed the dark, stormy looking sky and how the buildings in the foreground were lit up by the sun coming through the thick clouds over my shoulder. The Hilton / Beetham Tower was too large and close but the Great Northern Tower really
Skull Fresh Graffiti in Barcelona
about 1 year ago - No comments
Since photographing some great examples of graffiti in Manchester and Salford, I was keeping my eyes open for walls of Barcelona’s street art that I had heard so much about. Here I used a 18mm wide angle lens, so I could get nice and close to the walls and not get trees or street furniture

Love the second picture – maximum niceness!

i love stuff like this, so much better then just spraying random stupid sayings or words on a wall or window.
