Saint Michael’s Parish Church, Alnwick

I saw this church last summer and thought it could make a good photograph for this website. With the nice blue sky and even lighting it has made it, but I am not happy with it. Saint Michael’s is a strange building because the tower appears to lean a lot, but it in fact just gets thinner as it gets taller. Architectural photographers are always wary of having images with converging verticals, where the perspective of the building gives this effect. Here however my lens has done a fantastic job, but the building appears to be designed to converge at the top of the tower. Another processing issue with this image is I try to publish images at the same size, so that the downloads are constantly fast (or at least always a similar wait time). I compressed this to the normal size of 100KBs, but because of the high levels of detail, it has lost almost all quality, sharpness and detail. I suppose that’s just me being a whiny perfectionist!
