Ford Fiesta ST at Malcolm Wilson Rally

A second in my new series of rally photographs taken last Saturday morning the above photograph shows my favourite small car. The Ford Fiesta ST is in my opinion a lovely car, and I believe that Malcolm Wilson (the man behind this rally and Colin McRae) agrees with this because he has set up a specific trophy just for the Fiestas. I must have photographed at least a dozen of these tiny but powerful cars.
This was probably my best picture of this type of car, not just because of the sharpness and colourful car graphics, but also for the water spray behind (caused by the puddle he just drove through) and the way the wheels are turning towards the camera as he starts to power slide around the corner. This particular ST was driven by Meilyr Evans with Andrew Edwards as the co-driver.

Barcelona Harbour
about 3 years ago - No comments
Getting up the hilly areas around cities such as Edinburgh, or in this case Barcelona, can be hard work, especially with a lot of heavy camera gear in 30 degree heat, but it was worth the effort for the above photo. This view of Barcelona’s Harbour was taken from edge of the Gardens of Joan…
Font Màgica fountain in Orange
about 3 years ago - 1 comment
Flying to a new city such as Barcelona with today’s low baggage weight meant that taking a large and heavy tripod in my suitcase was a hard decision to make. That was until I found out I was going to have a chance to see the wonderful Font Màgica (magic fountains) outside the Palau Nacional…
Lake Windermere Jetty – Lake District
about 3 years ago - No comments
We read left to right, so as a photographer I am often conscious of this when framing pictures, because that is how we read photos too. So in an ideal world this Jetty would lead in from the bottom left and not the right. Then ideally there would be a nice white boat at the…
Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2008
about 3 years ago - 6 comments
This past weekend brought with it the 30th anniversary of Bristol’s International Balloon Fiesta. The main balloon pictured is from team Bristol Balloons and flown by Mike Jennings. The fiesta takes place at Ashton Court and is the biggest of its kind in Europe with mass launches of up to 130 balloons taking flight at…
Dark Figures on Abersoch Beach

Believe it or not there are four people in this photograph. I had walked down to the beach at Abersoch to get some sunset and evening light images. It was as I was walking back to the house that I turned back towards the sea and saw this scene. If you can’t make them out,…
Heavy Rain on the Table

It has been very changeable weather here in Manchester over the past seven days and this photograph is a testament to that. Last weekend at the BMW F1 event I was able to get some half decent pictures of the cars in good light. Five minutes later there was a large storm that came over,…
BMW Sauber F1 Car

On Saturday I was lucky enough to photograph the BMW Sauber F1 Team’s Pit Lane Park at the Trafford Centre. It was great to get so close to such a powerful car, espically when I am starting to take a keen interest in motorsport. Obviously this weekend was the Grands Prix at Sliverstone, so Nick…
Heron taking off from the Water of Leith
about 3 years ago - No comments
This is the second photograph of a heron that I have published taken on the Water of Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland. I prefer the one above, but others tell me they prefer the one of the heron wading. It makes me proud that this was taken on a 135mm zoom lens, when a lot of…
Grevy’s Zebra at Edinburgh Zoo
about 3 years ago - 1 comment
Edinburgh Zoo is my favourite zoo in the UK for photography. There always seems to be a large number of animals that are waiting to have their photographs taken. What I mean by that is you can often go to a zoo and see a lot of animals, usually through unclean glass or wire fencing,…
Trafalgar Square Fountains at Night
about 3 years ago - 1 comment
The fountains at Trafalgar Square look good in the day time, but at night they are fantastic. I have just got back to the hotel after a night photographing various locations around London. This is my favourite image I captured and one that I am sure will make for a nice print. Yesterday the light…
