Intek Screw Drivers Product Photograph

Over the past couple of days I have been working on some product photography for a client and thought I would share this simple looking photograph with you. I always thought that product photography was easy and simple, but this wasn’t the case here. There are two studio lights and a flash lighting these two screw drivers. The intention was to reduce shadows and get a completely white background, the problem was that the handles of the objects are very dark and the metal areas are extremely shinny and reflective causing the cameras in built light sensors to go a little crazy. Obviously the camera was on a tripod to keep a sharp image and in the end a completely manual mode had to be used with a longer than average shutter speed (exposure time) and rear sync flash to fully illuminate the two objects inside a light tent (or small white cube) to keep the lighting under control and even over the whole image. After two days of product photography I started to work out new ways of taking product images and processing them. Hopefully more work like this will come my way in the near future.
