Seagull at Dunbar Harbor, Scotland by Ed OKeeffe

Whilst browsing through my now extensive collection of photographs of Scotland. I found this interesting picture of a Seagull watching over the beautiful harbor at Dunbar (about 40 miles east of Edinburgh along the coast). The image above is definitely not as good photographically as the one I published on the same day I took this (Tuesday 18th July 2006). But I did want to show the boat on its side, which didn’t feature in the previous photo. Taken into this sun the original file straight out of the camera looks very different, using Photoshop I was able to mask out the foreground rocks and colour correct the background separately to the foreground. This took maybe 15 minutes to do something that would have taken a good 3 - 5 hours in a traditional darkroom. It seems the more technology advances we can do more with our time but that only puts more demands on our time.

Top Three Tallest Buildings in the UK at Night by Ed OKeeffe

This image was also taken on Friday 5th January 2007. Studying this photo I was convinced it was three skyscrapers but after a bit of Wikiepdia style research I found out this picture shows four skyscrapers. The Bank of America building is much closer to the camera and the Citigroup building is the furtherest away. It is strange how the angle you take pictures at effects the perception of a situation. The height of the Citigroup tower and the HSBC tower is exactly the same, they are the joint second tallest buildings in the UK. The tallest, One Canada Square (commonly known as Canary Wharf Tower) is pictured to the right with what appears to be smoke coming from the top of the building.

Marriott Hotel at Night in West India Quay on the Isle of Dogs by Ed OKeeffe

This image was taken on Friday 5th January 2007. I was walking back to the hotel after a photo shoot in the Westminster Area of central London. This photograph shows the Marriott Hotel at West India Quay on the Isle of Dogs near Canary Wharf. We were staying in the hotel pictured (the tallest building). It seems extremely large from this angle but it isn’t as big as many of the skyscrappers that you would see if I had turned my camera lens 90 degrees to the left. There appears to be a major construction site on the flat area to the right of the hotel. I wonder what this view will look like in five or ten years?
